I moved to Carroll Gardens at the start of 2020. I was already a fan of Folksbier so I was thrilled to be living a short walk away. One night I was coming home from an underwhelming date and decided to pop in since it was on the way home. There were only three other people, but they were sitting at the bar chatting with the bartender. Turns out I had stumbled into an impromptu bottle share, which I happily joined in on. Spent the next three hours hanging out with good company and good beer. Folksbier will be missed.
Such a bummer, enjoyed Folksbier's stuff especially their Grand Army Stout accompanying a dozen oysters, as well as Echo Maker and Night Walk.
I have a very vivid memory from early May of 2020, walking with the family about 2 miles to the tip of Red Hook and back, and stopping to pick up an order from Folksbier on the way — the geometry of how to get to their place was complicated due to the BQE. I think it was the first of the local craft breweries I was able to get beer from during the pandemic, and that really meant something to me at the time, a glimmer of hope. Wish I could have gotten their beer more regularly.
Pretty heartbroken to hear this news. Spent 7 years in CG, Folksbier was an oddity when its beers first showed up at Prime Meats (where is this brewery!?). Remember Morning Dew from day 1, became one of my favorite beers. Sif, too. Was so excited to stop in when they first opened. Recurring Dreams, OBL, Echo Maker, Little Owl...any release, reliably excellent. They offered something different from the other breweries in that part of town and on another level of craft. And I don't even like kettle sours! I feel like Glow Up overshadowed how exceptional everything they did was.
It was a favorite on paternity leave, calm on weeknights, and my last proper visit was actually an outrageously packed Saturday afternoon in February before COVID. Their crowlers were a real comfort during lockdown on top of the delicious regulars.
Really missed them since I've left CG and been meaning to make a trip to grab some Morning Dew. Special place, great people, and great beers. Will be missed :(
Loved Folksbier - delicious, quaffable beers with moderate ABV. Only recently moved just around the corner and was excited to become a regular. There on Saturday, and next day they were no more. Crazy. Hopefully the brewers can crank out some of those delightful beers in another venue soon.
Sad news about Folksbier, hadn't visited in a while but it was nice knowing it was an option. Didn't know One Mile House closed, cool place for cocktails and beer. Fools Gold was a favorite over there too
What a bummer. I used to live close and go by all the time for an OBL. And I really got to know some of the brewers... I hope they find other places to practice their craft soon as well as the other staff!
Loved Folksbier though I only got to visit once. I had a friend that used to live a block away in the 2000s so I wanted to try this brewery where I hung out for a good part of my youth. It turned out to be a great idea; the beers were fantastic and I was overjoyed they made to-style European beers rather than being another haze-and-pastry stout cannery. I'll definitely miss them.
I’ve much enjoyed every trip to Folksbier even though it was such a long haul from the East Side of Manhattan. Whenever I was in the neighborhood, it was a priority to stop in. It’ll always be a sore spot that they closed this space. (I’m not holding my breath that we’ll see their products re-emerge through contract brewing, either. But that would be a partial salve if it happened )

Any more info on what happened? Quite abrupt....
